“Painters of the World” is a unique international series of silver collector’s coins which was started in 2006.
This series is dedicated to the most famous painters of the world. All coins are rectangular and present individual images of the painters and chosen reproductions of their wonderful works, thanks to which each coin is to some extent a piece of art.
Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa was a French painter and graphic artist who lived in 1864 – 1901. As a representative of Post-Impressionism, he hugely influenced the development of modern posters with his lithography. He had a genetic defect and as a grown-up man he was only 1.5 meters tall. His torso and upper parts of his body were of normal proportions but his legs were extremely short. He devoted his life to art available to him. In the mid 1890s Toulouse created illustrations for a humorous magazine Le Rire.
His paintings presented the life of Moulin Rouge and other Parisian cabarets, theaters and brothels. He often placed two of his acquaintances in his works – a singer Yvette Guilbert and Louise Weber, a dancer and inventor of the French cancan.
After his death, thanks to his friends and family, Toulouse-Lautrec has been recognized as an outstanding painter with an amazing ability of observation and a unique sympathy and understanding for humanity. His paintings were sold at auctions for up to $14.5 million.
