In 1988, the Isle of Man introduced the very first Cat coin which featured the Manx Cat. The Cat is now one of the World’s most famous coins and to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this amazing series, the twenty-fifth coin will again feature the tailless Manx Cat.
The Manx Cat is a breed of domestic cat which originated in the Isle of Man and has a naturally occurring mutation that shortens the tail. Many Manx Cats have a small stub of a tail but the breed is best known as being tailless which is the most distinguishing characteristic of the breed. Manx Cats come in all coat colours and patterns and are said to be social, tame and active.
To celebrate this milestone in the life of the Isle of Man Cat coins a stunning new coin is being issued on behalf of the Isle of Man Government which portrays a Manx Cat with her kitten. The coin is available in Cupro Nickel, Fine Silver and Fine Gold with the Cupro Nickel and Silver versions also available in colour bringing this lovely animal to life. These two versions are also available packaged in a special colour pack or, if you prefer, with a cuddly Manx Cat soft toy in a little bag.
In addition we are also producing two special sets to celebrate this Anniversary. One set will contain the 1988 original Fine Silver Manx Cat coin with the new 2012 Fine Silver Manx Cat. The other set will contain the 1988 original Fine Silver Manx Cat coin along with a 1/10oz Fine Gold 2012 Manx Cat coin which will have a diameter of 22mm. Both these sets will be presented in a set box with a Brass Manx Cat.
To add to the uniqueness of this year’s Cat coin, the 2012 version with also carry a very special double effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which has been produced to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee year.
