Mexican gold coins stand alongside other international gold coins as being some of the most pure in the world. This is an amazing and heavy gold coin made from one ounce of pure gold. The gold purity of this beautiful coin is 99.9%, with an actual gold weight of 1 ounce. This is a large coin and perfect for investors seeking to lock in the capital as gold prices steadily rise. Mexican gold “Libertad’s,” as they are called, are not made in large quantities, which means each year of issue is bought up relatively quickly. The obverse of this heavy gold piece features a design from the “new series” of Libertad coins. This 2010 minting features the winged Victoria standing atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column; the statue is made of bronze, but covered with 24 carat gold making it a very appropriate subject for this coin. The gold purity of this beautiful coin is 99.9% This column and statue can be found in Mexico City at the Paseo de la Reforma in downtown. Victoria is the Roman Goddess of victory (similar to Nike of Greek mythology), and is made to hold a laurel wreath in her right hand and a broken chain in her left, the former another symbol of victory and the latter a symbol of freedom. The background on the obverse shows the two volcanoes that can be seen from Mexico City, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. Both volcanoes remain active and are connected by a mountain pass called Paso de Cortes.
The coin’s reverse features the Mexican coat of arms. The most current version is found in the center of the coin, while ten “historical” versions of the design surround the main image; for the moment this is unique to the one ounce version of this coin. The eagle’s other talon is perched on a prickly pear cactus, while oak and laurel leaves and the text “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” This is actually the Seal of the United Mexican States as well. The image shows a golden eagle killing a snake in its beak, while holding it in one talon. The eagle’s other talon is perched on a prickly pear cactus, while oak and laurel leaves and the text “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” (United States of Mexico) surround the symbolic victory of good over evil. At this weight, this coin is perfect for long term investing goals. The beauty of this gold Libertad is undeniable, while the idea of saving it for the potential of profit in this shaky world economy is quite sensible. To make this aesthetically appealing design available to a wide range of investors this coin is issued in 1/20, 1/10, ¼, ½, and 1 ounce versions. Mexican Mint
