The Mint of Poland presents a coin dedicated to the Odessa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet which is one of the most important places on Odessa's cultural map.
This coin is a combination of the highest monetary craftsmanship and extraordinary passion for culture and mint art.
The design of the coin fully brings out the charm of the oldest theater in Odessa.
The obverse shows the monumental building of the theater, the reverseimages of actors in their full glory performing on stage under a selectively gold plated and richly decorated curtain.
It is offered in an elegant, wooden presentation case with a gold stylized image of a theater's edifice with its fa~ade embellished with decorative ornaments.
The Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre is rightly considered to be one of the most beautiful and the best opera theatres in Europe. The history of the theatre began in 1810, when it was opened. However, in 1873 the building was destroyed by fire. The present theatre was reconstructed according to the project of famous architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. Its Opening Ceremony took place on 1st October, 1887. Since then the magnificent edifice, designed in the style of Vienna baroque with its interior lavishly decorated in the style of the late French rococo, has been the city's greatest pride.
