Château-Renard is an ordinary (L6) chondrite that fell near Montargis, in Loiret, France June 12, 1841. The meteorite’s fall was published in the American Journal of Science and Arts, Volume 42, as reported in the New York Observer on August 14, 1841. Current price of 1g Chateau Renard Meteorite is around US$300.

Galignani’s Messenger mentions that at a late session of the French Academy, a communication was received from M. Delavaux, stating that on the 12th of June, (1841,) between one and two o’clock in the afternoon, the sky being without a cloud, an explosion was heard at Chateau Renard, in the department of Loiret, louder than several pieces of artillery firing together.  He suspected that this must have proceeded from an aërolite ; and on going to the spot where the noise had been loudest, found there the marks where the aërolite had struck the earth, as well as several fragments of such a body, lying about.  Most of these fragments were small, but one weighed thirty pounds, and another six pounds.

Meteorites are pieces of the solar system that have fallen to our Earth. The fascinating messengers from outer space mostly come from asteroids and comets, with only few pieces being of Lunar or Martian origin. The big part of found meteorite pieces go to labs and universities for studying, since they are the only material evidence of the universe beyond our Earth. This makes meteorite pieces one of the most expensive and valuable materials of the world! For this coin, it was possible to gather some pieces of a French meteorite, fallen in 1841. Each pieces is genuine and comes with its own certificate to prove its cosmic origin.
