The Pond Turtle is the thirst coin of the "ATLAS of WILDLIFE", a new series of silver coins dedicated to amazing animals inhabiting our planet. The western pond turtle (Actinemys marmorata or Emys marmorata), or Pacific pond turtle is a small to medium-sized turtle growing to approximately 20 cm (8 in) in carapace length. It is limited to the west coast of the United States of America and Mexico, ranging from western Washington state to northern Baja California. In May 2002, the Canadian Species at Risk Act listed the Pacific pond turtle as being extirpated in Canada. Struck from 1 oz silver .999, the coin features a vivid depiction of a wild boar in its natural habitat, the latter embellished with a colored Swarovski crystal. Special minting technique has been employed to reveal stunning details of an artistic image of the animal.

The large collection starts with the set featuring European animals. Presented in a luxury box, the “Atlas of Wildlife: Europe” consists of four coins in total – Wild Boar, Perch, Pond Turtle and Wood Grouse – to be released soon in 2014.
